So. We all know. Greirat Dies on the Third Pillaging Run. And So far Nobody knows how to Save him or if its even Possible to Save him. However. There is several Indications that Greirat can be Saved. One of which is that Patches asks for Greirat and Dissappears after you tell him. Thing is. He apparently Fails to save Greirat. Which means he does actually try to do so. He is, presumably, from the Undead Settlement (from Cell Key description) and is a self-proclaimed well known thief and now shamed criminal (from Thrall Hood).
